Baths & Books

3 minute read

You know you're of a certain age when one of your favorite hobbies is bathtub reading. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE sinking into a hot bath with a good book. The steam rises, the world quiets down and I’m transported into another place entirely. Sharing my current reading stack below - most can be found at the library or from your favorite book store (my neighborhood spot is Books Are Magic!).

Happy bathing.

The Uncommon Book of Prayer by Heidi Smith

This is your NEW guide to co-creating with the universe. Heidi's inclusive take on prayer feels inviting and truly has been supportive as I've navigated some heavy life-moments over the past few months. Re-visiting daily prayer, in my own personal way, has helped guide me through the challenges. Also, the illustrations by Chelsea Grangar are so lovely.

If taking a bath, you can use Epsom salt, which also contains negative ions, and has a drawing-out energetic.

Learning to lead with your heart in all matters of life. If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of Sharon's mediation offerings, then do it! She will change your perspective on life. Sharon's one of he founders of the influential Insight Meditation Society (alongside Joseph Goldstein).

The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin

Less of a "how to be creative" book and more of a meditation on creativity itself. Good reminder that we are all 1 of 1s and to not get caught in comparison spiral.

The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller

Yes, this book is about grief, but in a way that feels expansive, necessary and even beautiful. . Best paired with a long soak and deep exhale.

Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers by Leonard Koren

A tiny but powerful book about imperfection, impermanence and beauty in the unfinished. Ideal for when you want something short and meditative to flip through in the bath.

It Begins with You by Jillian Turecki

A thoughtful, no-nonsense approach to self-reflection and personal growth. Read this when you're in the mood for a gentle but firm nudge toward being your best self. (Thank you Jillian!)

Chani Nicholas 2025 Astro Calendar

OK so this one isn’t a book per se, but it is a perfect bath-time companion. Chani’s app is a great way to stay in tune with the cosmos while you soak.

A Modern Herbal by Mrs. M. Grieve

Originally published in the 1930s, this book is an absolute treasure trove of herbal knowledge. Whether you're deep into plant magic or just curious about old-world remedies, this is one I like to keep close.
